e50 head nut torque trouble (5 replies)

Hey guys

I'm working on installing my first kit and everything has gone smooth until I got to tightening the head nut. I had to rent a wrench from the auto store. First wrench was broken when I got it, swapped it in for a brand new one.

The damn thing doesn't click. I had the wrench set to lower than the torque called for in the manual and it started to feel uncomfortably tight, so I went ahead and 'tried' to take the nuts back off to examine. I had been tightening them in a criss-cross pattern, but lo and behold, 3 of the 4 cylinder studs had slightly bent at the ends - the nuts aren't coming off. Thank goodness the cylinder looks to still be in good shape.

I asked a mechanic in my family to give me a hand when I was starting to get puzzled. He has never worked on mopeds before (Honda 90s and the like would be the closest) and was almost as perplexed as myself.

Has anyone run into similar problems? Can I put the damn thing on without hitting the torque specs perfectly? Aye yai yai
